The Premier League season is back with the opening weekends results promising another controversial and exciting campaign.

The opening fixture of the season saw Vincent Kompany host his former manager Pep Guardiola with Manchester City travelling to Turf Moor to face-off against the Championship winners Burnley.  Burnley looked positive in possession, creating decent goal scoring opportunities but unfortunately could not stop the inevitable Norwegian Erling Haaland from making an impact.  Haaland’s brace alongside Rodri’s messy finish from inside the six-yard box sealed a 3-0 victory for the defending Premier League Champions.

The MoneyMan, Oliver and Dylan all correctly predicted a Man City win.  Ollie and Dylan got the correct score line while MoneyMan was just off with his 2-0 prediction.

On Saturday most of the action took place with six games kicking off throughout the afternoon.

Arsenal secured their first win of the campaign with a dominant 2-1 win over Nottingham Forrest at The Emirates, with performances from Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Martin Odegaard of the highest quality.

Crystal Palace also kicked off their season with a win.  Despite Sheffield United’s best efforts, they could not find the breakthrough as  Odsonnne Edouard’s 49th minute goal was the difference.  Palace came away 1-0 winners.

Bournemouth hosted a West Ham United side still recovering from the exit of captain Declan Rice.  West Ham went ahead thanks to Jarrod Bowen but ultimately could not keep the clean sheet with Dominic Solanke snatching an equalizer late in the second half.  The final result was 1-1.

Brighton began their season where they ended the last, with a classy performance.  Luton Town were given a Premier League welcome to forget at the Amex Arena with the Seagulls cruising to a 4-1 victory.

Fulham travelled to Merseyside to take on Sean Dyche’s Everton.  Bobby Codrova-Reid’s 73rd minute strike was enough to clinch the win.  Arnaut Danjuma’s late miss summarized the Toffees poor performance upfront as they squandered very good chances to equalize.  Fulham won 1-0.

The final game on Saturday was the most exciting fixture of the weekend.  Two teams pushing to disrupt the top six status quo were facing off in game week 1.  Newcastle United ended up dominating the game despite Aston Villa’s early promise.  Eddie Howe’s magpies were simply too good.  Alexander Isak is going to have a phenomenal season.  Newcastle won 5-1.

Sunday saw the final three fixtures played out, kicking off with Brentford vs Tottenham.

Tottenham took an early lead but could not hold out.  Brentford’s attack was unstoppable with the Bees taking back the game in the 36th minute, Yoane Wissa made it 2-1.  Spurs were not out of the game and in the 4th minute of first half stoppage time equalized thanks to Brazilian Emerson Royal.  The final score was 2-2.

Liverpool and Chelsea’s off the field drama set the perfect scene for the Reds journey to Stamford Bridge.  An exciting opening 30 minutes from Liverpool was followed by a dominant second half by Chelsea.  Jurgen Klopp’s side were holding on for the last 20 minutes as Chelsea controlled possession and created more opportunities.  In the end the points were shared with a final score of 1-1.

On Monday evening the final game was hosted by Manchester United with Wolves looking to make a statement at Old Trafford.  For most of the Game United looked off the pace.  They struggled to control the game and were sloppy in possession.  Raphael Varane scored the decisive goal but The Red Devils were lucky to not concede a late penalty after Andre Onana’s challenge in the box.  The PGMOL apologized to Gary O’Neil and Wolves on Tuesday morning, stating a penalty should have been awarded.  Manchester United won 1-0.
