MoneyMan's weekend wrap

This past weekend I didn’t tip any bets, but just sat back and watched the final round of the Rugby Championship and the opening round of the United Rugby Championship.

New Zealand really seem to be gaining some steam, and watching them wallop the Wallabies was easy viewing on a Saturday morning. Unfortunately, it meant the Boks had that 40 point differential to overturn later in the day.

Despite the Boks looking like they were going to do it at one stage, they just slowly lost more control of the game as it went on, and allowed in points from an Argentinian side who never should have come close. I found it a frustrating watch, not just because of the abysmal referee, but because the Boks really are so often their own worst enemies.

Dobbo’s men were on fire on Saturday afternoon though, and it was fantastic to see them beat Connacht so emphatically and with such flare. It was the perfect way for the Stormers to open up the tournament, after their success last season, and they did it without a couple of key players.

Evan Roos made a big statement again, and scored a ridiculous 50m try while also dominating all around the field. It remains absurd that he was actually playing for the Stormers and not for the Boks against Argentina. Every Test that Roos is not given a shot in is another missed opportunity for Springbok rugby. He must not just be on the end of year tour, he needs to play.

Anyway folks, more from me once soccer is back in full flight.
