The MoneyMan came right with both his big predictions in the opening weekend of the 2023 Rugby World Cup.
When we shot our RWC preview on Thursday, I told Zels and Ollie that everything pointed to a French win for me; the crowd, the occasion, the conditions and ultimately, Ian Foster’s All Blacks.
MoneyMan: Back France to beat All Blacks
They are not even a shadow of All Black golden era of 2011-2015, and I felt their pack would always get dominated. I didn’t think the French would put more than two scores past them, but wow, what a wake up call for those who have been unreservedly backing the All Blacks.
And Springboks v Scotland? What a way to end the weekend. I warned to stay away from the game, as I thought the bookies had the spread just right.
But the Boks were so impressive. Keeping a strong Scottish side scoreless, but for one penalty, was a statement to start the World Cup.
France, far from their best, put the All Blacks to bed. They will be formidable at home, throughout this tournament. But for me, the Boks remain the team to beat, and they reminded everyone of that on Sunday evening.
