It was a weekend full of sport, and it was rugby that came through for me!
I got asked on my Facebook page over the weekend if I only bet on rugby and soccer. They are two of my favourite sports, and ones that I tip often, but the truth is I bet on my most sports if I feel I have an edge.
I’m a Welsh Canadian who has lived in South Africa for nearly 30 years. My love for sport extends from basketball, ice-hockey and baseball to rugby, soccer and cricket. Every now and again I pick up my clubs and hit the golf course too.
Betting is not just gambling, it’s making calls based on form guides and information, and if you follow a sport closely and do your research you should see more success than you do failure.
This weekend I tipped some bets on the Premier League, the Proteas and the Stormers. I was on a roll last weekend, and if any competition is going to throw a spanner in the works, it will be the Premier League. Ever-unpredictable, my beloved Leeds beat Liverpool at Anfield. I had put down a double bet for Man City and Liverpool to both win, it was a bet I was happy to lose. It’s not every day Leeds take three points away from Anfield.
I made up the cash on the URC, when the Stormers beat the Lions 31-22. My bet, given that the sides has combined for more than 51.5 points on three of the previous four occasions, was a combined total of over 51.5. Happy days on the return.
Sunday my attention was turned to the Proteas and I tipped Rilee Rossouw to score over 22.5 points. He’s been flying, smashing a century against Bangladesh just under a week ago. He was dismissed for a duck by Arshdeep Singh, who also took Quinton de Kock out on his first ball of the over. When a bet loses like that, you need to resign yourself to the fact that that is the nature of sport sometimes. Two of SA’s best batsmen taken out quick-fire by some great bowling.
I did however take a tickle on Temba Bavuma to score under 17.5. Somewhat unfortunately, but obviously, that bet came through. It is never nice to punt against a player or one of your teams, but you have to go head over heart.
The amount of sport on at the moment is incredible; Premier League, Champions League during the week, the URC over the weekends and T20 cricket on tap. Looking forward to punting throughout the week, and for another packed weekend.
