A quiet weekend, but a successful one nonetheless. The MoneyMan reflects on his weekend of betting.
Generally the weekend wrap comes on a Monday, but I like to wait until all the Premier League games from the past matchday are done, which is the case this week, given West Ham’s fixture against Bournemouth last night.
Nothing really screamed at me from this past matchday’s fixture list, especially not in terms of outright results, which are always rather risky with soccer anyway.
I know Ollie lumped some money on Fulham to beat Leeds at 3/1, and cashed out at a 2/1 return when they went 2-1 up. Testament again to what I have written in the past about cashing out. If you don’t cash out and your bet ends up losing, you have actually lost potential money, not just the wager you put down.
Never get greedy.
I was a bit unlucky on Fulham vs Leeds. I bet R1000 on Fulham to receive more bookings than Leeds, given they are the most ill-disciplined side so far this Premier League, averaging 3.40 yellow cards to Leeds’ 1.80 prior to the game. Full time saw them tied at 1-1 for yellow cards.
I do believe that stats always win in the long run, and on Monday night I put down a corners bet on West Ham vs Bournemouth. My logic read as follows:
“West Ham are perennial under achievers when it comes to earning corners, in fact the worst in the Premier League by 0.70 corners less than Nottingham Forest WFC. They average 2.80 corners per home game. Bournemouth don’t exactly tread the corner patches much either away from home, only averaging 3.00 corners per match. So when I see -9.5 corners paying 11/10 I have to get involved. I am putting down R1000 to win back R2100 that these team combine for less than 10 corners tonight.”
The game ended with five corners and I got my money back.
For those who follow my NFL tips, I saw a tasty return on the Raiders, as the beat Houston Texans. I felt it would be the breakout game for the Raiders, where their talent and quality finally came through despite an unconvincing record. I put R2000 on the Raiders to cover the -6.5 spread and it paid back R3600.
Another great week and weekend of sport ahead, looking forward to tipping some Premier League again this weekend, and having a squiz over the other markets too.
