Well, better weekend than last folks –even though last weekend was not too bad (betting wise)!
I know I said I would not be betting on the Boks and would be betting on the Pumas +14.5 but two things happened: The first is that I slept in and New Zealand were up 15-0 against a team going through the motions and eager to get on a plane home, so I took the All Blacks to win by -28.5 points for R2400 which payed back R4400.
The second thing that happened was a constant amount of money coming in on the Boks which turned them from underdogs into favourites. Conditions also favoured the Bok forwards so I put R4500 on the Boks to win and boy did they ever. The victory returned R8,460.
It was a great return, but even even greater to start my Saturday watching the Springboks reap the rewards for shaking things up with selections.
Damian Willemse is something special, and it is fantastic to see him not only assert himself as a regular starter for the Springboks, but also play so well at flyhalf. It’s a position where the Boks have been shaky this year, given Handre Pollard’s inconsistency.
Speaking of which, I had my own bet going with regards to Pollard. I said earlier last week that I could slot the two kicks that he missed the previous week against Australia (with a beer and smoke in hand), and that if I couldn’t I would donate R10 000 to a charity of Pollard’s choice.
Here’s a video of what went down when I pulled my boots on for the first time in 20 years
In terms of Premier League, amazing what a few weeks can do when you look at Manchester United’s surge in form. The absurdity of the Premier League is that the other team from Manchester dropped points to none other than Stevie G and his men, who have been abysmal so far this year. Liverpool fans and Gerrard himself wish that this was the result they got at the end of last season!
Loving the full weekends of sport and the surprises that the soccer world always throws up.
Off to London but will check in soon,
