I’m going to keep this weekend’s wrap fairly short, because for me it was a weekend to forget.
Let’s start with the obvious and unfortunate reality of my lost bet on the Cheslea game against Leeds. Never would I have thought Chelsea could get smashed so convincingly by a Leeds squad that doesn’t hold a candle to the quality of player that Thomas Tuchel has at his disposal.
It is scant consolation for lost money, but at least my beloved Leeds continue to pump it in the early stages of this season!
The Newcastle draw to City was great to watch, and great for this season. It’s indicative of the quality of squad Newcastle are building and the coaching style of Dean Smith, who has done wonders since he came in. Always nice to see City given a little run for their money too!
But wow, how disappointing were Liverpool. Despite a few injuries, they should never have lost to a United team coming off the back of beatings from Brighton and Brentford, especially in the manner that they lost. Kudos to United for playing with more passion than has been seen in a long time. No coincidence that Ronaldo and Maguire spent the game on the bench.
To top it off, Jaqcues Nienaber has picked an incredibly disappointing Springbok squad to try break the Australian voodoo this coming weekend, and much of the public was hoping for a bit more imagination and the introduction of the younger stars of the URC. Whether the Boks win or not, I struggle to see what you gain in starting Duane ahead of Elrigh Louw and choosing to back Elton Jantjies again.
Nevertheless folks, we’ll speak again next week!
