The final Test match between the Springboks and the British & Irish Lions delivered on everything that the first two tests promised in terms of tightness and physicality, but the Springboks were all class in closing out the final game in 19-16 and covering the -2.5 handicap on offer prior to the match.
In my preview during the week I wrote “Bet on Bok handicap”, saying that I believed that the Boks were a team that were five points better than the Lions, but that I would be all over the -2.5 handicap on offer on Betway SA, which promised a 1.86 return.
On an occasion as grand as a British & Irish Lions Test series decider, that “five points better” can quickly shrink to a one point game either way, and the impact of 37-year old veteran Morne Steyn was unmatched in the biggest moment as he came on with 15 minutes to play and kicked six points to win the Springboks the series.
The Boks won 19-16 and though the match was close, it should only ever have been a Springbok series triumph after the emphatic 27-9 result of the second Test.

It was fantastic to see my R2000 on the Boks at -2.5 turn into R3720, but what was even better was seeing a Springbok squad so deserving of a series win secure it in the most magnificent and nail-biting fashion. Every player left everything they had out on the field in every test, including the first one where they should have won too, an d there is no denying that the boks remain the number one team in the world.
I hope you folks cashed in on my prediction, and I’m looking forward to betting on this Bok team as the year progresses.
