I had another good outing this weekend, but it was Sunday night that sealed the deal as a good betting weekend for me. “Go big on Bayern” was my sentiment the whole week, and while the game was tighter than expected, it was an amazing spectacle and ultimately the result that I was looking for.
My weekend started in the HP Field house in Florida, where the Toronto Raptors took on the Brooklyn Nets in their third game. I liked the Raptors to blow the Nets off the court, tipping on my Facebook page that they had been awful in game two and still won by five points against a Nets side playing at their very best. My R500 on the Raptors at -10.5 returned a healthy R910 as they hauled 25 points in beating the Nets 117-92.
My second bet of the weekend was an interesting result. I spent two hours researching Seville and Inter Milan in preparation of their UEFA Cup Final on Friday night. MoneyBoy did his homework too, and we were in vocal agreement in our video on Friday afternoon that nobody should be looking further than the blue and black stripes of Inter, as they would just have too much class for Seville. I put down R1000 to win back R2100, and MoneyBoy wagered R500 on an Inter Milan win, both of us expecting at least two goals to the Italians. 2-2 At half time already indicated the game going completely against what all research, statistics and gut feel indicated pre the match. But such is the nature of sports, especially sporting finals. 3-2 to Seville meant the bet lost, but what was not lost and never can be is the habit of knowing your sports, doing your research and trusting that you made the right bet given the information you had. I felt I did this, and I know a lot of you who lost out on Inter did the same too. Don’t stress, it happens and there’s always another game and another weekend.
After a quiet Saturday I looked to the Colorado Avalanche, who have become a bit of a go to for me this season. They faced up against the Dallas stars and with both sides scoring goals for fun in the build-up, I tipped for a combined total of 5.5 goals and won R1020 back on my R500 as the Stars netted 5 to the Avalanche’s 3.
This weekend was also full of Premiership rugby action, and although there was only a slight form guide to go off, I felt that -7.5 for Ulster against Connacht was a steal, as my own calculations had them as 20-point favourites. I wagered R500 to win back R900 but against all odds, Connacht turned around the handicap to trump Ulster 26-20. A confusing result, but again, not an indication of poor preparation but rather the exciting possibility that there can always be an upset in sport.
Sunday night was where most of my weekend’s money and energy was. I absolutely loved Bayern at 2/1 on Betway to put PSG away and secure the UEFA Champions League title. I wrote on my Facebook page “Bayern have thrashed better teams than PSG in this competition and haven’t lost a game across competitions. They have too much class for the French side.” I put down my biggest bet of the year so far, R2000 for my #Fund3 to win back R4000. PSG gave as good as they got, and made for an entertaining yet stressful 95 minutes. But the Germans controlled that match, and they were always just going to be too good to lose. A happy end to the weekend as Bayern deservingly took the title with a 1-0 win.
A great weekend folks, and wishing you a great week.
